1. Right, brief hiatus… apologies.

Fancied exploring some organic textures, and honing the portrait skills. Why not combine the two? I’ve been meaning to do a series on interesting and inspirational musicians/producers/DJs for a while, so thought I’d kick off with an all time favourite, Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet

  2. Skull drawn on tracing paper, then inverted. Gave it a nice texture, but preeeetty unforgiving, so to be honest wouldn’t recommend it. I also made some skulleidoscopes… more for the word really. Anyway, recently bought a pair of decks, and am in awe of the scope a 12” record sleeve gives, hence the square format. So, could be a sleeve design, but equally, given the right amount of holly and bells, a christmas card. Dead festive eh. I’ll stop now.

  3. A portrait of Michael Haneke, Austrian film director and persistent beard owner. As far as I can tell. I’ve seen two of his films, The White Ribbon and Funny Games. Though tough going at times, I loved the former, but despised the latter, which I guess that was in many ways the point.
Anyway, Haneke’s most recent film, ‘Amour’ was released last week, and I hope to catch it soon.

  4. Forgot to post this, although in fairness I was waiting for it to appear on the Nucleus site. My contribution to the Power in Numbers online gallery. Have a look at it here, along with other close ups of the piece, and more information on the scheme.

  5. Issue 8 of Popshot magazine is out, and I’m in it! Pretty excited about this one, been a real fan of the selection popshot puts out for a while now.
That said, I will not be drawing a ball of yarn again in a hurry… not that I even managed to on this occasion. ‘Twas a slow process for sure. Still, think it was worth it.

  6. ‘I was thrown out of college for cheating on the metaphysics exam; I looked into the soul of the boy sitting next to me.’ - Woody Allen.

I love that line… Having one of the most instantly recognisable faces in show business actually made Woody Allen surprisingly difficult to draw. There were definitely points where, like drawing a self portrait, I found myself drawing what I thought he looked like, and not what my reference was telling me. I know this isn’t exactly an artistic revelation, but I noticed it more on this drawing than perhaps on any other.

  8. Editorial for Little White Lies issue 43, a portrait of the main character(s) of Rian Johnson’s latest film, ‘Looper’. Tricky one this one, as Joseph Gordon-Levitt underwent 3hrs of make up each morning to look ever so slightly more like Bruce Willis, so a portrait of him was always going to look a little strange. Still, the film looks pretty cool, and the rest of the issue looks great, check em both out. I also helped out on the features section, but more on that soon.
